Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Unveils Top 25 Priority Bills For Texas Legislative Session

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has announced the first round of his top 40 priority bills for the 89th regular legislative session, emphasizing an ambitious agenda for Texas’ future. In a statement issued today, Patrick highlighted the increase in priority bills from 30 to 40 this year, signaling a wider range of initiatives aimed at addressing key concerns of Texans.

“These bills represent the will of the conservative majority of Texans, and many will pass with bipartisan support,” Patrick said. “Just because a bill is not included in the top 40 does not mean it is not a priority for me or the Senate.”

Among the key pieces of legislation are Senate Bill 1, which outlines the state’s budget, and Senate Bill 2, which focuses on expanding school choice by creating a voucher-like program. Other priorities include Senate Bill 4 to increase the homestead exemption, Senate Bill 6 to improve electric grid reliability, and Senate Bill 7 to enhance the state’s water supply.

Patrick’s list also includes bills addressing a range of social and legal issues, including banning THC (Senate Bill 3), combatting Alzheimer’s (Senate Bill 5), and implementing reforms to bail practices (Senate Bill 9). Additionally, several bills focus on public education, such as Senate Bill 12, which seeks to establish a parental bill of rights, and Senate Bill 13, aimed at protecting against inappropriate books in public schools.

Patrick emphasized that the Texas Senate would continue its leadership in fighting back against federal policies, particularly those from the Biden administration, while supporting President Trump’s vision for America.

“These bills will help President Trump deliver on his promise of making America great again,” Patrick added.
