Tesla issued a recall notice for Cybertrucks because of a software failure causing the rearview camera image not to activate immediately after shifting into reverse. This is the fifth time in less than a year that Tesla recalled the Cybertruck.
According to the Associated Press, the recall applies to over 270,000 Cybertrucks “manufactured between November 13th, 2023 and September 14th, 2024.” A report by The Verge notes that this recall applies to “essentially every Cybertruck ever made.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that the Cybertrucks could have a condition where the reverse camera feed “may appear blank for up to 6 to 8 seconds” if the customer tries to back up before the vehicle completes a shutdown and boot-up process. The U.S. requires the screen to activate within 2 seconds of shifting into reverse.
Cybertruck owners had to deal with various recalls since the vehicle was delivered in November. The AP reported that in June, there was a recall to fix problems with the windshield wipers and two months before that the vehicle was recalled because the accelerator pedal could stick.
Tesla released a free software upgrade to address the issue and is expected to send owner notification letters on Nov. 25.
