It Could Take 9 Months for COVID Immunity in the U.S.

If you are wondering if the vaccine roll out across the globe means life will be normal soon, well not really.

Worldwide more than 159 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered in 76 countries. In the U.S. 69 million doses have been delivered and 48 million administered according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

CDC data shows that almost 36 million people have had at least one dose and more than 12 million people have received two doses nationwide.

However, at the current rate, it will take an estimated nine months for 75% of the population to receive two doses of the vaccine according to Bloomberg’s vaccine calculator.

At the current pace, it will take seven years for worldwide vaccination to be complete, according to Bloomberg statistics.

In Texas almost 10% of the population has had one dose of the vaccine, and just over 3% of the population has had two doses.

The Texas Department of State Health Services(DSHS) announced this week that one in three people ages 65 and older have now received a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Also, you may notice new ads also rolling out about Texans receiving a vaccine, developed by the Texas Department of Health Services. One video released this week involves a diverse group of Texans who are 65 and older expressing their hopes to see their grandchildren again soon and receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

DSHS is spending over $2 million on the new ad campaign encouraging Texans to get the shot.

“Do it for yourself, do it for your family, do it for the community,” says a woman in the new Texas public awareness campaign video.

According to the state’s vaccination map, in Travis County 100,000 people have had at least one dose. In Harris County close to 400,000 people have had at least one dose of the vaccine. In Bexar County 186,000 people have had at least one dose, in Tarrant County 150,000 people have had one dose.

The map is updated every day at 4 PM.
