FBI Investigates Mysterious Drone Sightings Over North Texas

Unidentified drones have been sighted near key military and industrial facilities in North Texas, including the NAS Joint Reserve Base and Lockheed Martin locations, following a string of similar incidents in New Jersey.

According to reports from NBC DFW, the latest sightings occurred Tuesday evening in White Settlement, a town near prominent defense and aviation sites. Police and residents began noticing drones flying approximately 100 feet in the air after 8 p.m. The drones were observed in varying formations—at times in clusters of six and at other times flying in pairs or trios.

White Settlement Police Chief Chris Cook told NBC DFW that the situation is unsettling given recent national concerns. “Kind of concerning, especially with all the national narrative,” Cook remarked. “I think people are just kind of in tune with what’s been going on in the northeast.”

The incidents come as drone sightings across the country have surged. Over the last month, more than 5,000 sightings have been reported, fueling worries about airspace safety and national security. Despite the volume of reports, the FBI has stated there is no evidence of malicious activity linked to these drones, as first reported by the Austin American-Statesman.

In a joint statement, the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, FAA, and the Pentagon confirmed they have received approximately 100 tips related to the sightings. The Biden administration has responded by deploying advanced detection technologies and trained observers to monitor and analyze the situation.

“The sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and stars mistakenly reported as drones,” the agencies said. “We have not identified … a national security or public safety risk.”
