LawnStarter, a company that provides lawn care services, recently released a report on the dirtiest cities in the United States. The report compared 150 of the largest cities in the country based on four categories: pollution, living conditions, infrastructure, and consumer satisfaction, as reported by KXAN.
“LawnStarter ranked 2023’s Dirtiest Cities in America following one of the trashiest times of the year, the winter holiday season. We compared over 150 of the biggest U.S. cities across four categories, including pollution, living conditions, infrastructure, and consumer satisfaction,” the report said.
Houston was ranked as the dirtiest city in the country, followed by Newark and San Bernardino. Detroit, Jersey City, Bakersfield, San Antonio, Fresno, Oklahoma City, and Yonkers rounded out the top 10.
There were also several other Texas cities ranked in the top 50, including El Paso, Dallas, Amarillo, and Fort Worth.
According to LawnStarter, Houston is the third most polluted city among the 150 cities ranked, with a significant number of petrochemical facilities that violate EPA safety guidelines.
The city also has the largest cockroach problem, according to the Census Bureau, and ranks third worst in greenhouse gas emissions from large industrial facilities.
“Despite these conditions, Houston residents are still more satisfied with the cleanliness of their city compared to the residents of 33 other big cities,” the report said.
