Longtime Texas State Rep. Four Price Announces Retirement

State Representative Four Price of Texas has announced that he will not be seeking re-election in 2024.

Representing the 87th District in the Texas House of Representatives, Price expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and represent the people of Texas.

In a statement, he acknowledged the honor of working for the best people in the state and thanked his constituents for their overwhelming support since he was first elected in 2010.

“I have represented the 87th House District for seven sessions in the Texas Legislature, and I’m deeply appreciative of the community’s overwhelming support since first being elected in 2010,” Price said.

“It’s been the privilege of a lifetime to work on their behalf in the legislature and play a meaningful role in passing landmark legislation. I’ve given this decision considerable thought and believe the time is right to complete my service as a House member.”

Price also reassured his constituents that he will continue to work diligently on issues important to the district until the end of his term in January 2025.

During his time as State Representative, Price has dedicated himself to serving as a results-oriented voice for constituents residing in eight Texas Panhandle counties: Carson, Hansford, Hutchinson, Lipscomb, Moore, Ochiltree, Potter, and Sherman.

Over the years, Price advocated for access to quality healthcare and clean water, along with sound public education and higher education opportunities.

During the 88th Legislative session, Price, a pro-public school rural Republican, helped prevent ESAS/Voucher-like legislation from reaching Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk. During the Herrero Amendment vote, a bill that banned state dollars from funding vouchers, Four Price was amongst the 24 Republicans that voted for it.

Price has also championed legislation on brain injury prevention and rehabilitation, access to and the delivery of mental health services, and enhancing the state’s and region’s infrastructure including broadband and telemedicine/telehealth access. 

Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the Texas Legislature, Price recognized the privilege of being a member and the rare chance to determine the length of his service while accomplishing his legislative priorities. He acknowledged the friendships he has formed and expressed appreciation to his wife Karen, his family, his dedicated staff, and everyone in HD 87 for their support throughout his political career.
