Beyoncé Set To Join Kamala Harris At A Houston Rally

Beyoncé is expected to join Vice President Kamala Harris at a Democratic rally this Friday in her hometown of Houston, according to different sources.

Three people familiar with the matter told the Associated Press that Beyoncé is expected to join Harris in a campaign stop in Houston, where she is set to talk about reproductive rights. They spoke on condition of anonymity and the Haris campaign has not given comment on the matter.

However, Beyoncé has endorsed Democratic candidates before and has even appeared at Barack Obama’s presidential inaugural ball and sang at his second inauguration in 2013.

She has also supported Harris’ campaign without a formal endorsement. She gave her permission to use her song “Freedom” for Harris’ ads and rallies.

According to the Washington Post, Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles and country music icon Willie Nelson will also appear at the event.

While Texas remains strongly Republican, Beyoncés appearance could boost her performance in the state, but also could help U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, who is currently in a close race against Sen. Ted Cruz. Beyoncé endorsed Beto O’Rourke last election and Cruz barely survived his election bid.

According to an Ipsos poll, most Americans have a favorable opinion of Beyoncé, 48% to 33%.

Despite the rumors, the AP noted that there was also speculation that the superstar would appear at this summer’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Numerous outlets reported that Beyoncé was in the city and that multiple sources confirmed that she would endorse Harris at the event.

However, it seemed that it was all a rumor, and news site TMZ wrote: “To quote the great Beyoncé: We gotta lay our cards down, down, down … we got this one wrong.”

Harris has received support from numerous superstars. Taylor Swift endorsed her, Rap star Eminem joined Obama at a rally in Detroit, and Bruce Springsteen is set to join Obama and Harris on Thursday in Georgia.
